KUALA LUMPUR, December 31 - The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al Haj, together with the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, expressed their Happy New Year 2025 wishes to all the people of Selangor and Malaysia.
Through a statement on the official Selangor Royal Office Facebook page, His Majesty hoped that this new year would bring progress and prosperity to the country.
"In conjunction with this new year, I call on all the people, regardless of religion, race and political affiliation, to instill a new resolve to focus more on efforts to develop the economy and work harder to develop the country in all fields.
"I do not want parties who are still in conflict, especially among leaders, the business community, civil servants who are greedy for power and luxury.
"I have often noticed that such conflicts often become the cause of malicious slander and flaming as well as the spread of false information, especially on social media," his Majesty said in the post.
His Majesty also called on the people to continue to unite regardless of religion, race, and political beliefs in order to ensure harmony and common prosperity.
In the message, the Sultan of Selangor advised the people to stay away from the practice of slander, flaming, and character assassination, which he described as increasingly worrying.
"Recently, I am also concerned about 'character assassination' which are increasingly widespread with the intention of giving a negative perception to certain individuals.
"Usually, this 'character assassination' only occurs during election season, but now I have found that it is used to destroy trust and subsequently bring down certain individuals," said His Majesty.
At the same time, His Majesty also emphasized the importance of combating corruption at all levels by ensuring integrity is a priority in the country's administration.
"In this new year, I want the people to be equally determined to combat corruption at all levels by increasing enforcement and most importantly, prioritizing integrity within life values.
"Remember, a civilization can collapse only because of rampant and uncontrolled corruption. I believe that to become a developed country, the people must respect each other, think positively and be united," he said.
