BATU PAHAT, December 31 - A two-storey tahfiz dormitory block in the Parit Raja area, here caught fire this morning.

According to the Senior Operations Commander of the Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), Assistant Fire Chief Mohd Shamin Mohamed Salikin, the station received a call at about 8.35 am this morning and confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties during the incident.

A total of 23 personnel were sent to the location along with three fire engines to put out the fire.

"Upon arrival at the location, the special fire brigade (PKO) found that the fire involved the student dormitory on the second floor of the building, which was estimated to have destroyed 40 percent of the entire building," he said in a statement.

He said the fire was successfully extinguished at 10.50 am. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
