Remove the negative stigma related to AI - UiTM Professor

Professor Ts Dr Haryani Haron was a special guest for the Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme today

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 August - The public needs to be aware and alert of the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and remove all negative stigmas related to the technology.

Assistant Vice-Chancellor of the College of Computing, Informatics and Media (KPPIM) of UiTM, Professor Ts Dr Haryani Haron said, AI technology opens new job dimensions in various fields.

Therefore, all parties are called not to consider it as a threat, but rather a tool to innovate, solve challenges and empower individuals in the job market.

"If the stigma says that AI will destroy a lot of jobs and cause a lot of unemployment. I don't agree, because what we see is actually the circulation of this technology has created a lot of new technologies, professions, about a career that may not be thought of.

"We have to change our mindset, don't think that today's career is the career that will remain in 100 years. (This is because) today's career when there is technological development, maybe that career does not (or) changes shape in a career that exists influenced by technology," she told to the reporter in Angkasapuri today.

Meanwhile, Haryani said, the development of AI technology not only improves the standard of living but also makes the country able to compete with developed countries.

"So for me, any application developed by the government, we have to try to use it... learn to use it, because that's what is done in developed countries.

"Similarly for the elderly, don't be afraid to use technology. We have to remember that the technology that is formed today is the result of what we want (that is) a better life. So that's what happens in the world's technology circulation," she said.
