LIMA, August 14 - Malaysia’s participation in the 14th Energy Ministers’ Meeting (EMM) under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is a significant step in strengthening the nation's green agenda.

According to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Solar Energy Research Institute deputy director, Assoc Prof Dr Norasikin Ahmad Ludin, input from EMM can be fully utilised to improve strategies in related roadmaps including the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) 2.0, which is currently being finalised.

“The EMM is also a platform that highlights the nation’s aspirations regarding a fair, equitable and inclusive energy transition as emphasised in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 1992," she told RTM.

The 14th EMM APEC will commence this Friday at Lima Convention Centre, Peru.

The Malaysian delegation will be led by the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation.

He is also scheduled to meet with his counterparts from several countries on the sidelines of the event.

"Face-to-face interaction facilitates discussions towards forging strategic and smart partnerships with an emphasis on technological innovation.

"This step can accelerate efforts to create a greener Earth, which is the aspiration of all 21 APEC economies," she further explained.
