Police raid entertainment centre operating over hours, 79 detained

JOHOR BAHRU, December 15 - Police arrested 79 individuals including 11 foreign women at an entertainment centre in a raid last Friday for operating beyond permitted hours.

Johor Police Chief Datuk M Kumar said the special operation carried out at about 2.30am involved four officers and 26 members from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters and the Johor Bahru South Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.

Initial urine screening results found that 63 local men and four women as well as 11 foreign women tested positive for methamphetamine, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), ketamine and benzodiazepines (benzo).

"All those arrested, including an individual who was a cashier at the entertainment centre, are aged between 18 and 40.

"The results of the inspection found that the premises had a valid business licence and entertainment licence, but had been operating beyond the permitted hours," said M Kumar in a statement.

Kumar said inspection inside the premises also found 2.07 grams of ketamine, involving the arrest of four local men and four foreign women in two separate rooms.

All of them have been remanded for two to six days until tomorrow.

The case is being investigated under Section 12 (2) and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952; Section 11 (2) of the Johor Entertainment and Entertainment Places Enactment (ENJ) 4/98; Section 6 (1) (c), Section 15 (1) (c) and Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63; and Section 39 (b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963/63.
