KUCHING, December 15 - The state government has decided to sponsor two journalists annually to attend an executive programme in the United Kingdom (UK).
According to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the two-month programme is believed to improve the views and quality of journalists in Sarawak.
He said candidates will be selected through a panel which will also include representatives of the Sarawak Media Association.
"Currently we have established ties with Oxford Cambridge in the UK. I want to send journalists to attend that for just one month because with the executive programme you can mingle with international executives and discuss on what is happening around the world. With that, your reporting will reach global standards, not just Sarawak standards," said Abang Johari.
He said this at the Kenyalang Journalism Awards 2024 held here, last night.
Subsequently the Anugerah Tokoh Wartawan 2024 which also took place was awarded to Haji Basri Mohamad, a former cameraman for a private broadcasting station, who served from 1969 to 2006.
