IPOH, Feb 27- Perak Police confirmed receiving two reports on the issue of race, religion and royalty (3R) which link the Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and the The Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) on social media.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said investigation papers have been opened regarding one defamatory comment against Datuk Seri Saarani, while another related to the text of the sermon prepared by JAIPk.
"Two police reports have been received, one of which is from a former State Assembly Member of Titi Serong. The case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 4 of the Sedition Act," he said.
He said this after the Senior Police Officer Rank Ceremony and the Handover Ceremony of the Three District Police Chiefs and the Chairman of the Perak's Association for families of Police (PERKEP) at the Senior Police Officer's Mess, here.
Noor Hisam added that efforts to track down the suspect are underway.
Yesterday, Perak UMNO Youth Leader, Nazirul Jamaluddin filed a police report against an individual believed to be an activist of a political party, known for making defamatory comments.
The same report was also filed by former Titi Serong assemblyman, Hasnul Zulkarnain Abdul Munaim.
In another development, Noor Hisam said the Perak Police is well prepared in the event a By-Election (PRK) of the Ayer Kuning State Legislative Assembly (DUN)were to take place at any unspecified time.
According to him, their preparation covers an aspect of total membership as well as the number of assets needed to ensure that the by-election runs smoothly and in a peaceful manner.
"In terms of security, we will ensure smooth voting, traffic control and public order. All security personnel in Tapah district will be mobilised, and if necessary, we will use Light Strike Force from other districts to fortify control," he said.
