KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 - Over 667 users of Rakyat Net Energy Metering (NEM Rakyat) have successfully completed the installation of solar systems and also received rebates from the Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS) programme since its introduction on April 1st, 2024.
The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) said that the majority of them received RM4,000 each through the SolaRIS rebate.
The implementation of SolaRIS is able to reduce the solar system installation cost for domestic users because it creates an economic scale that allows the installation cost for the people to be lower and more affordable.
“This step will increase the demand for solar installation among domestic users and contributes to the target of increasing renewable energy (RE) capacity in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR),” it said.
In a written response to Mohd Hasbie Muda’s question in the Dewan Negara today, PETRA addressed the latest developments in the SolaRIS programme and its potential to assist the government in meeting the renewable energy generation targets.
Analysis shows that the average number of NEW Rakyat applications has increased from around 100 applications to 150 applications per day since the launch of SolaRIS scheme, the ministry said.
