PUTRAJAYA, 30 July - An additional allocation of RM100 million was announced for the improvement of security facilities on the northern border of the peninsula involving Kedah, Perlis and Kelantan.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that considering the poor condition of most security facilities, especially in the northern border of the country, he has ordered the management and financial process to be accelerated.
According to Anwar, he will meet the Prime Minister of Thailand, Srettha Thavisin in Sungai Golok and Rantau Panjang to discuss border security issues and to boost economic growth in the north of the Peninsula and southern Thailand.
"On August 3, I will meet Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin in Golok and Rantau Panjang to discuss border security and increase economic growth in the north of the peninsula and south of Thailand," he said at the opening ceremony of National Security Month 2024, here today.
Besides that, Anwar said the development of basic infrastructure at the Sarawak-Kalimantan border following the development of Indonesia's national capital, Nusantara, needs to be focused on and plans should not be delayed.
Thus , he wants the latest report to be presented to him in the Cabinet meeting this Thursday on the development of the area.
On January 20 last year, the government announced an allocation amounting to RM1 billion to develop basic infrastructure on the Sarawak-Kalimantan border following the development of the new Indonesian capital.
The allocation is to build a Customs Immigration, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex as well as roads in areas near the border.
