SHAH ALAM, 3 January – An immigration officer has pleaded not guilty to charges of offering a bribe of RM2,000 to a fellow officer in exchange for facilitating the entry of foreign nationals at the KLIA counter two years ago.
The alleged offense took place at the KLIA 2 Arrival Hall.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution suggested a bail of RM20,000. However, the accused's lawyer, Datuk Zamri Idrus, requested a reduction, citing the defendant’s responsibility for supporting five children and covering the costs of heart treatment.
The Sessions Court granted bail at RM12,000, also ordering the accused to surrender his passport to the court. Additionally, he was instructed to report to the Johor Bahru MACC office every month and prohibited from contacting witnesses in the case.
The case is being investigated under Section 16(b)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries penalties under Section 24 of the same Act.
Earlier, 50 law enforcement officers were arrested in a MACC "Op-Setting" operation, suspected of collaborating with a syndicate to facilitate the entry of foreigners via "special counter routes."
