KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1- The Northeast Monsoon (MTL) 2024/2025 or better known as the monsoon season in Malaysia is expected to start next Tuesday (November 5th) and continue until March 2025.
Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said in a statement that during the period, five to seven episodes of heavy rain are expected to transpire in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah.
Meanwhile, from January to February 2025, the states with the most potential to experience heavy rainfall are Pahang, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah.
However, if the prevailing monsoon is strong and coincides with a low pressure weather system, continuous heavy rains can occur in other states in Malaysia.
According to him, in the run-up to the final phase of the MTL, which is from January to March 2025, the northern regions of the Peninsula are expected to experience less rainfall and potentially experience heatwaves as a result of the hot and dry weather.
Therefore, the public is advised to prepare for the monsoon season and always be aware of the information, advisory, forecasts and weather alerts issued by MetMalaysia.
