Sarawak launch more direct flights, boost Bintulu's economy and tourism plan

BINTULU, Nov 2- Batik Air airline started its maiden flight connecting Kuala Lumpur and Bintulu, yesterday (Nov 1).

Sarawak's Transport Minister, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said that this new route will operate 10 times a week, offering more travel options for tourists and locals.

"Increasing the fight especially during the festive occasions like coming soon such as Chinese New Year, Christmas, Hari Raya, Gawai Dayak's, when here's a demand of more seat, that they are willing to cooperate similarly with the other airline.

"AirAsia has also met with me," Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin told reporters at the Bintulu Airport on Friday (Nov 1).

Lee added, this new route is expected to have a positive impact on the tourism and economic sectors in Bintulu.

He also encouraged Batik Air to explore other international routes such as Indonesia, China, Japan, and South Korea to make Sarawak a major transit hub in the region.
