MELAKA TENGAH, 20 March- The government will enforce the Trade Descriptions Order (Certification and Marking of Engine Oil for Motor Vehicles) 2024 starting 7 April to curb the sale of counterfeit motor vehicle engine oil in the market.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said all vehicle engine oil sold after that date must have a compliance label certified by SIRIM to ensure product authenticity.

"This order aims to protect the interests of consumers and the industry, particularly engine oil manufacturing companies. With the SIRIM application, consumers and workshops can verify the authenticity of the product before use," he said this at a press conference at the Tangga Batu Industrial Estate, here, today.

He said the government has given six months to manufacturing companies to comply with the directives regarding the gazette order starting on 11 October, 2024.

Armizan also said 240 complaints related to motor vehicle engine oil products were received by his ministry from January 2019 to February this year.

"36 case actions were taken with a seizure value of RM1,154,000," he added.
