KANGAR, August 5 – More than 100 residents of Wang Ulu's People's Housing Program (PPR) successfully executed the Merdeka Ashura Program in conjunction with the month of independence and the month of Muharram according to the Islamic calendar which indirectly traces the history of independence and the story behind the symbolic ashura porridge.

In conjunction with this programme, two cauldrons of Ashura porridge were prepared together by the residents who were able to produce more than 400 packs for the distribution of local residents and UniMAP students.

Chairman of the Wang Ulu People's Housing Program (PPR) Residents' Association, Hashimah Ismail in his statement informed that the initiative to implement the programme had a great impact on the harmonious atmosphere among the residents, in addition to creating close brotherhood among the multi-racial community.

In addition , the programme that took place during the celebration of the National Month enlivened and highlighted the value of patriotism among the community, thus boosting their pride living in a peaceful and prosperous atmosphere after 67 years of the country achieving independence.

She informed this at the Merdeka Ashura Program at PPR Wang Ulu, made possible together with Aspirasi Prihatin Malaysia and Persatuan Persaudaraan Muslimah Malaysia.

In conjunction with the National Month and Kibar Jalur Gemilang , PPR Wang Ulu and Aspirasi Prihatin Malaysia will implement various patriotic programmes including the 1 Rumah 1 Jalur Gemilang Campaign.
