KUCHING, August 8 - Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil said Malaysia's efforts to license social media platforms have attracted the attention of several countries that have expressed interest in following the same steps.

He said that the United Kingdom (UK) communications regulatory body, Ofcom, has shown interest when contacting the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to find out more about the implementation of the initiative.

In addition to OFCOM UK, Singapore is also interested in knowing Malaysia's approach in licensing social media platforms.

On the topic of the cyberbullying crime, Fahmi informed that a special committee has been established by the government involving the Malaysian Communications Commission (MCMC), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Attorney General's Department and is headed by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Legal and Institutional Reform). The committee will refine existing laws or amend the Penal Code (Act 574) to combat cyberbullying.
