Malaysia is on the right track to achieve RM3.6 billion revenue in data centre industry by 2025

Deputy Communication Minister Teo Nie Ching

KUALA LUMPUR, August 7 - Malaysia is on the right track to achieve its revenue target of RM3.6 billion in data centre and cloud services industry, by 2025.

Deputy Communication Minister Teo Nie Ching said that this was the result of the commitment from industry players who made significant investments and expanded their operations in this country.

She said that significant investments are proof of the world’s leading companies’ confidence in this country.

“We believe we are on the right track because we see many industry players entering Malaysia for the digital economy investment and a lot of data centres who are already here are expanding their operations. Some of them have met me and said they want to increase their investment in Malaysia.

“We have big names like Microsoft, Amazon, when they are here, their suppliers will definitely be interested. So, they will also invite their suppliers to come to Malaysia. Therefore, we see this as an opportunity to create more high-value job opportunities for Malaysians,” she said.

Teo Nie Ching said this after launching the CloudTech and Data Centre Conference 2024 here today.

She added that the success was also driven by the government’s commitment to digitisation and effort to stimulate an innovative ecosystem.

Accordingly, Malaysia needs to leverage on the digitisation transformation by using existing advantages to become a leader in the sector.
