KUALA LUMPUR, January 30– The commitment of Malaysia and Japan in the effort to rebuild Gaza is not only a good step, but also serves as an example for other countries, said the Deputy Director of the Malaysian Institute for Inclusive Development and Progress (MINDA UKM), Dr. Anuar Ahmad.
According to him, this cooperation is very important in ensuring that basic needs such as schools and hospitals can be rebuilt in Gaza.
"Of course, with this cooperation, we can not only help Gaza meet their needs, but also develop it better, especially in providing basic facilities such as schools and hospitals.
"The efforts implemented by the Malaysian and Japanese governments are not only good to implement but can also be an example for other countries that want to work together to rebuild Gaza," he said when contacted by Berita RTM today.
He also called on Malaysians to support this noble effort to ensure that the development of Gaza can be effectively realized.
Yesterday, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, announced Malaysia's and Japan's commitment in efforts to rebuild Gaza.
The two nations agreed to rebuild Gaza through the initiative of the Conference of East Asian Nations Cooperation for the Development of Palestine (CEAPAD) by establishing a special fund to support the reconstruction of the affected region.
On Jan 18, Anwar was reported to have said that the reconstruction of Gaza, which has been almost destroyed due to Israeli attacks since October 2023, is expected to cost more than USD1 trillion.
He said a large amount was needed since facilities such as mosques, schools, hospitals and houses had been destroyed.
