GUA MUSANG, March 19- The project to upgrade the prey species breeding facility for Malayan Tigers at the Gua Musang Wildlife Conservation Centre (PKHL), Kelantan is expected to be completed by January next year.

Deputy Minister of Works Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the project, worth more than RM3.32 million, is a Federal Government initiative to address human-wildlife conflict.

According to him, the facility aims to provide animal supplies as a food source for the Malayan Tigers, thus reducing the incidence of predators entering village areas in search of food.

“We are completing the fence, deer runway, building a lookout tower, 47 units of deer pens, a pump house and several other facilities. So far, the project progress is on track,” he said after inspecting the Gua Musang PKHL, here on Tuesday.

The 38-hectare project, which began on July 29 last year, has now reached 21 percent progress, in line with the assigned schedule.

Ahmad added that when fully completed, the facility will be able to house up to 150 female sambar deer as a food supply for the survival of the Malayan Tiger population.
