KUALA LUMPUR, August 1 - The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) takes a serious view of the sale of academic certificates from school to higher education as published by a local newspaper yesterday.

KPT in a statement said, it will not compromise and will take strict action on any Private Higher Education Institution (IPTA/ IPTS) or individuals that are involved in this matter.

"At the ministry level, monitoring and regulation is being carried out by the Department of Higher Education (JPT) through inspection of IPTS aligning with the Private Educational Institutions Act 1996 (Act 555) related to the issuance of fake certificates.

"In addition, KPT has implemented Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure the validity of academic certificates which the public can verify.

"The KPT would also like to inform that there have been several cases of academic certificate fraud that have been successfully resolved previously through public complaints," said the statement

KPT informed that it involves a fraud syndicate that deceives victims by using the name of the IPT involved.

A police report will also be made to ensure that this fraud syndicate can be contained

In the meantime, the public can also check the qualifications and information regarding recipients of Honorary Degrees and Doctoral Degrees on the KPT GREaT portal through the link: https://dohe.mohe.gov.my/award/ .

The public is also advised to be aware and to
be careful of the tricks of this fraudulent syndicate and the sale of academic certificates.

KPT will continue to be committed to ensure that the higher education system is not tarnished by illegal activities
