KPK conducted a global anti-palm oil campaign

Minister of Plantation and Commodities (KPK), Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 - Several strategies are being implemented in an effort to promote sustainable palm oil, including a global anti-palm oil campaign.

Minister of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said it was in defiance of the anti-palm oil propaganda that oil producers were trying to play.

"We will continue to conduct this anti-palm oil campaign at the global level through the involvement session that we continue to have bilateral engagement with policy makers in the importing countries.

"We also engage with the country's politicians, consumer associations, buyers, traders and importers as well as industry players and the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved who are constantly using the issue of this palm oil propaganda," Johari said in response to Senator Datuk Lim Pay Hen's question asking him to set out a comprehensive strategy for promoting sustainable palm petroleum in the international market.

The KPK will also continue to educate and conduct public awareness programmes for stakeholders regarding government efforts together with regulators of the Malaysian Sawit Oil Board (MPOB) in implementing good planting practices.

He said this includes responsible labour practices of industry players in Malaysia.
