KOTA BHARU, Dec 4- All assets to facilitate rescue operations for flood-affected residents in Kelantan, including a Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) helicopter, are ready to face the next wave of floods.

Kelantan JBPM Deputy Director Aswafaizole Abdul Wahab said that all the assets involved are currently in the fire stations.

"We have asked for help from nearby states such as Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, including the KKB Fire Academy Center and the Wakaf Tapai Fire and Rescue Academy. We are ready at the Wakaf Tapai Fire and Rescue Academy where a helicopter is ready to help if a second phase subsequently takes place.

"From time to time, we will increase (the number of assets) if the second wave is even worse and ask for help from the participating states", said Aswafaizole to RTM when inspecting the flood control room at the Tunjong Fire and Rescue Department Headquarters.

Aswafaisoule added that although the flood situation in the state shows a downward trend, his team is ready for any possible second wave of floods and always refers to the weather information from the Meteorological Department (METMalaysia).

METMalaysia has forecasted that monsoon rains will take place between December 8th to 14th. This condition has the potential to bring continuous rain in the eastern part of Peninsular Malaysia during the period stated.

Kelantan recorded the highest number of flood-affected residents during the first wave of floods, which is more than 97,000 individuals from 29,000 families who took shelter in 283 temporary relief centers (PPS) across 10 districts.
