KUALA LUMPUR, August 15 -Members of the public exhibiting symptoms of influenza virus infection need to take stricter self-control measures.
Internal Medical and Gastroenterology Consultant at KPJ Rawang Specialist Hospital, Dr. Rushdan Abdul Aziz said many people are unaware influenza can be a silent killer in the community.
“Influenza is easier to contract compared to COVID-19 as it can be transmitted through airborne particles. So if someone has a cough, cold, and it spreads through the air, the risk of infection is indeed high," he said.
He said this to reporters after appearing as a guest on the Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme at Angkasapuri Kota Media, here.
Dr. Rushdan added children under the age of five, adults over 65 years, pregnant women and individuals with lung diseases are at a higher risk of contracting influenza.
He noted some of the preventive measures are the same as those taken during the COVID-19 pandemic, including getting medical assistance if experiencing a high fever, getting vaccinated, wearing face masks, and maintaining good personal hygiene.
