House on fire: Three in a family died in Johor Bahru

JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 17- Three family members died after their home in Kampung Oren near Ulu Tiram here caught fire in an incident early this morning.

The victims were a 63-year-old man, his 30-year-old son and 11-year-old granddaughter.

Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Senior Operations Commander Mohd Faiz Ramli said the dispatch received an emergency call regarding the incident at 2.46 am. A total of 24 members and four fire engines were rushed to the scene.

The fire involved a permanent house measuring 24 x 30 feet which destroyed about 80 percent of the building's structure.

Mohd Faiz said there were four victims trapped in the fire but only a 13-year-old boy was managed to be rescued.

"The surviving victim, who suffered burns on his face and hands, was given first-aid treatment before being sent to Sultan Ibrahim Hospital in Johor Bharu.

"(While) three victims died of burns all over their bodies," he said in a statement today.

He said the cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
