KUALA NERUS, January 12- Two roads along the coast on the Mengabang Telipot to Batu Rakit route near Kampung Mengabang Telipot and Kampung Tanjung here, have been completely closed since yesterday to ensure the safety of road users.
Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Azli Mohd Noor said the closure of 300 meters (m) and 330m was done following severe damage due to high waves and strong winds.
"Current conditions show wind speeds of around 60 to 70 kilometers per hour as well as large waves that have the potential to bring rock pieces to the road."
"Therefore, I have requested that the Public Works Department (JKR) close the road using a concrete barrier. This road will continue to be closed until the wind and waves subside," he said.
Azli added that he also assigned officers and members to carry out regular patrols in risky locations and locations where people are concentrated.
Therefore, the public is reminded to obey the instructions of the authorities and not to use the road in question.
He was met by reporters after inspecting the location of the closed road in Kampung Tanjung and receiving a briefing from JKR Kuala Nerus Road Engineer Mohd Ridhuan Baharuddin and Kuala Nerus Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) Engineer Ir Aisyah Abu Bakar here today.
Earlier, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) issued a warning of continuous rain and strong winds from 10 to 13 January.
