LABUAN, March 15- The government has allocated nearly RM58 million for development projects in Labuan, focusing on socio-economic and tourism improvements.

Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), stated that one of the key projects is the construction of Labuan Waterfront Phase 1, part of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), with an allocation of nearly RM39 million.

"This Waterfront project aligns with the Federal Territory’s vision for Chase City. In addition to boosting Labuan’s economy, it also incorporates elements such as a Healthy City and has the potential to attract tourists," he explained.

The proposed site, covering almost 14,000 square meters at Victoria Harbour Beach, will feature an esplanade, centralized parking, and walkways to support more organized urban development.

During his visit, Zaliha also inspected the construction of mechanical and electrical infrastructure for the flood control system in Kampung Gersik, which is now 63% complete, with an allocation of RM7.9 million.

Furthermore, the government has allocated RM11 million for the upgrading of the Patau-Patau 1 Bridge, which will benefit over 1,500 residents of the Labuan Tourism Village.

"The villagers have been waiting for this project for a long time. The poor condition of the bridge had been a concern, so the residents are truly grateful for the government’s efforts in securing funding for its upgrade," said resident S. Roslee Matusin.

In addition, Zaliha distributed 150 water tanks worth RM82,000 to seven villages across Labuan, aimed at improving basic amenities for the local community.
