KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 - The government agreed that a study and amendment to the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757) be implemented.
Housing and Local Government Minister, Nga Kor Ming said the move aims to review existing legal provisions taking into account current scenarios and needs.
This included the role and empowerment of Joint Management (JMB) and Management Corporation as well as aspects of overlapping provisions of existing strata laws with other related acts.
"Among the proposals being considered is the centralisation of the Commissioner of Buildings (COB) under a department or agency at the federal level for efficient monitoring purposes, but still subject to federal and state legislations," he said at the Dewan Rakyat today.
"Second, review the existing COB staffing structure in local authorities (PBT) by optimizing existing human resource requirements to improve the effectiveness of governance and regulation," he added.
The amendments also take into account the review of the roles and responsibilities of the COB as enshrined in existing legislation.
He was responding to a question from Pulai Member of Parliament, Suhaizan Kaiat.
