KUALA LUMPUR, November 26 - The Ministry of Education (MOE) is implementing the Healthy Mind Screening program to detect early signs of emotional disorders among students, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
The screening is conducted once a year for all students from Year Five to Form Six, while students identified with severe emotional disorders will undergo additional screenings twice a year.
Fadhlina stated that interventions are also carried out through the Healthy Mind Module, the Healthy Mind Intervention Program Module (PRISMA) and the Adolescent Mental Health Module.
"The MOE also mobilises the Smart Support Team (SST-MoE), consisting of trained Guidance and Counseling Teacher volunteers, to support students emotionally affected by crises at school," she said in response to a question from Gopeng Member of Parliament, Tan Kar Hing, in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Additionally, the MOE collaborates with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) to provide referral guidelines for students with mental health issues and implements the Health Promotion in Learning Institutions (HePiLI) program.
Regarding the psychological well-being screening of teachers, she stated that 92.7 percent of teachers have a psychological well-being profile based on the teacher well-being profiling using the Psychological Well-being Inventory (IKPsi).
She mentioned that the MOE is also developing the Teacher Well-being Index (IKG) to measure teacher well-being through domains of resource availability and usage, teacher autonomy and competence, work alignment and environment, psychological well-being, and support systems.
