KUALA LUMPUR, August 12 - According to the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2024, Kuala Lumpur has been listed among 30 developing ecosystems generating up to RM220 billion.

However, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim explained that there is a need for a shift by taking into account the achievements of other countries. This is particularly related to the field of technology and new innovations.

“For me this is the beginning. But if we look at what other countries have done, their initiative or efforts, their focus, it will definitely benefit us and shows that there is still room for us to improve. “We have to be prepared to turn over a new leaf, delve deeper and the existing expertise must always be evaluated.

“Our greatness is not only compared to the previous year or 10 years ago, our greatness is compared to the progress achieved by other countries, whether they are neighbours or other countries, if we keep improving the past performance of the country, which sometimes is at a very low level, we will not achieve anything that we can be proud of," Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this at the launch of Malaysia Commercialization 2024 in the capital.

Meanwhile, the government is constantly assessing geopolitical risks and changes in the global environment that could impact the country. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the country is now on the right track to achieve economic progress.

“We are now on the right track, but the government is also aware of the impact of international geopolitics and will assess from time to time,” he told reporters outside the Malaysia Commercialization 2024 here today.

He was commenting on the impact of the earthquake in Japan and the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the Malaysian economy. Entering its eighth edition, MCY 2024 is held as an effort to further enhance the commercialisation of local research, development, and innovation.

Various innovation exhibitions are held throughout the two-day event until tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
