Floods: Number of evacuees in Kelantan continues to rise

RANTAU PANJANG, 28 November - The number of flood evacuees accommodated at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Kelantan continues to increase.

According to the Social Welfare Department's Info Bencana Portal, as at 6am today, 27,313 individuals are being housed at PPS in nine affected districts.

They comprise 8,189 families at 146 PPS in the state.

Pasir Mas district remains the worst affected with 10,274 people from 3,234 families.

This was followed by Tanah Merah district which saw an increase this morning to 3,200 evacuees involving 950 families at 22 PPS.

Other affected districts are Kuala Krai, (2,826), Pasir Puteh (2,613), Kota Bharu (2,156) and Bachok (1,332).

Also affected are Tumpat (2,390) Machang (1,749) and Jeli (773).

Meanwhile, several major rivers in Kelantan have exceeded the danger level, namely Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang, Sungai Golok in Kuala Jambu Tumpat, Sungai Semerak in Pasir Puteh and Sungai Galas in Dabong Kuala Krai.

Road users were also cut off when several federal and state roads were closed after being flooded.

In Pasir Mas, 19 routes were closed to all vehicles, including Jalan Pengkalan Rakit-Batu Karang, Jalan Lubuk Kiat-Kubang Kuau, Jalan Meranti-Tanjung Tree and Jalan Gual Tok Deh.
