KOTA BHARU, 28 November – Gua Musang became the latest district in Kelantan to be affected by floods, with a temporary relief center (PPS) opened at Sekolah Kebangsaan Limau Kasturi 1 to accommodate 11 people from four families as of noon yesterday.
According to the Disaster Info Portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), the total number of flood-affected residents in the state continues to increase, with 33,385 residents from 10,062 families now taking shelter in 171 PPS.
Pasir Mas remains the worst affected district with 12,461 residents from 3,985 families evacuated to take shelter in PPS.
Among other districts also affected are Kuala Krai with 3,591 people (1,030 families); Tumpat 3,382 people (951 families); Tanah Merah 3,324 people (1,006 families) in 23 PPS.
Meanwhile, other districts affected by sudden flooding are Kota Bharu with 3,121 people, Pasir Puteh with 2,975 people, Bachok with 1,785 people, Machang with 1,863 people and Jeli with 872 people.
Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang recorded the highest water level as of 11.00 am at 11.58 meters.
The water level of the Golok River continued to rise compared to last night (10.9 meters), exceeding the danger level.
The e-Bencana Kelantan portal reported that Sungai Golok is one of the seven main rivers that have passed the danger level.
The other six rivers are Semerak River (Pasir Puteh), Galas River (Kuala Krai), Kelantan River (Guillemard Bridge and Tangga Krai), and Lebir River (Tualang).
Residents staying in high-risk areas are advised to be vigilant and follow the instructions of the authorities to evacuate immediately if necessary.
