Floods in Melaka gradually improving

MELAKA, March 8- The flood situation in Melaka is improving with only nine victims from three families still sheltering at evacuation centres as of 8am this morning, compared to 32 people from 11 families at 8pm last night.

The Director of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Melaka, Lt Col (PA) Kamarulsyah Muslim, through a statement, announced that all affected residents are now housed at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Penghulu, Sungai Rambai, Jasin.

"Another PPS at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dato' Abdul Rahman Ya'kub, Merlimau, which houses 25 residents from eight families, was closed at 10.40pm last night," he said in the statement.

Previously, two districts in Melaka, namely Melaka Tengah and Jasin, were hit by floods after continuous rain since 11pm Wednesday, causing 37 areas to be flooded.
