PUTRAJAYA, March 24 - The Ministry of Education will ensure that schools affected by floods receive immediate maintenance assistance.
Its Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said this is to make sure that students are in a conducive environment during learning.
She said that her ministry is currently collecting information regarding school damage due to the floods.
"It depends on the damage that occurred in each school. So, for now, we are still waiting for the overall report, especially from Johor which was recently affected by the floods."
"We will continue to ensure that our schools receive immediate maintenance assistance so that we can implement a conducive environment for our children's learning", she said at the Putrajaya Primary School Hari Raya Aid Handover Ceremony in Putrajaya.
Commenting further, Fadhlina said RM26.4 million has been allocated to repair schools affected by floods from December 2024 to January this year.
This involves five states including Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak.
In another development, she said the Ministry of Education does not compromise on the issue of racism that occurs in schools.
If it occurs, Fadhlina said action will be taken against those involved including teachers, students and officers who are found guilty.
She was commenting on the issue of an audio recording involving a teacher making a racist statement towards a student.
"We have been informed and we have conducted an investigation. I would like to emphasize that the Ministry of Education Malaysia does not compromise on the issue of racism that occurs in schools involving teachers, students or any officers. So, we do not compromise on this issue. The investigation is ongoing and we will take action", she said.
