KUALA LUMPUR, September 5 - The government is committed to protecting society from increasingly challenging digital threats in the digital era.
Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said online safety is not just about protecting young people, but ensuring the safety of all citizens in this country.
"Today's young generation is growing up in a borderless world where their social, educational and entertainment lives are closely linked to digital platforms.
"This has opened the door to risks that were never faced by previous generations including cyber bullying, exposure to inappropriate content and various other online crimes," he said while attending the International Legal Conference on Online Harms 2024 here today.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and Spanish Ambassador to Malaysia Jose Luis Pardo were also present.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Chairman of the National Social Council said, promoting social unity and the well-being of Malaysians has always been his priority.
"Cyber security should be strengthened while improving digital literacy and ensuring accountability for companies involved in the digital world.
"I am confident that we can protect our society from online dangers and ensure that technology is used in a responsible and ethical manner if all parties play their part," he added.
According to him, the Online Safety Bill is expected to be presented in the Dewan Rakyat this October.
