KUANTAN, March 5- The body of a man, who was feared to have drowned after falling from the Putra Bridge into the Kuantan River on Monday, was found floating this morning, about one kilometer from the scene of the incident.
Kuantan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the victim, identified as Ahmad Afzan Syahmi Zabidi, 22, was found at around 8.15 am.
The body was found floating by the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) of Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) near the Kuantan City Council (MBK) building.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Zulfadli Zakaria said his side received a call from the public regarding the incident at 10.48 pm last Monday.
Yesterday, the incident went viral on social media after a motorcycle was left on a bridge with the engine still running, while a mobile phone was still on a video call mode.
A witness who noticed the suspicious situation immediately called the 999 emergency line to report the incident.
A search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated last night with the cooperation of several agencies including the fire brigade, the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM).
The search mission was also assisted by two tracking dogs from the JBPM K9 Unit, Frankie and Denti.
The victim's body was handed over to the police for further action.
