Malaysia to strengthen AI and semiconductor sectors with UK chip giant

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5- Malaysia will enter into a strategic partnership with a United Kingdom-based company in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors in the country.

Senior Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said the partnership will create history for the country in the global technology industry.

According to him, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to launch the signing of the agreement this evening through the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Economy.

“Malaysia will be the first country in Southeast Asia to collaborate with the world's largest chip architecture design company.

"This will not only strengthen Malaysia's position in the global technology industry but also enable local companies to benefit from expertise and advanced technology in the semiconductor field," he said in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Daily Briefing on Wednesday.

He added that this collaboration will make Malaysia a major hub for the ASEAN technology ecosystem and house the company's first office in the region.

"This collaboration will accelerate the growth of a highly skilled workforce, thus strengthening the competitiveness of the country's technology industry," he said.

The signing of the agreement reflects the confidence of global investors in the MADANI government's policies, which continue to encourage high-value investments to strengthen the country's digital economy.
