KUALA LUMPUR, January 12– The Malaysia ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, which begins this year, has been well-received by the public, expressing excitement about strengthening the ASEAN community.
Most people interviewed by RTM in Kuala Lumpur hope that this event will have a positive impact on the country's economy, particularly in the tourism sector.
Mohd Nizam Abd Malik stated that Malaysians should be proud as the country takes on the responsibility of chairing ASEAN this year.
"We need to prove Malaysia's capabilities, especially in terms of the economy, and address any issues that arise during this event," he said.
Mohd Nazri Alyasha suggested that Malaysia take this opportunity to promote its culture, religion, and historical sites to ASEAN countries.
"For the first time, we should promote our culture, including aspects of culture, religion, and attractions. If possible, we should showcase the historical locations in Malaysia," he said.
Meanwhile, Syukria Aziz emphasized the importance of demonstrating a positive attitude to the visiting delegates.
"I hope that we, as Malaysians, can show a good attitude to those coming to our country. I am very excited and looking forward to the upcoming programs.
"We not only expect the country's leadership to provide strong support but also full backing from the Malaysian people, together showcasing our enthusiasm," he said.
Malaysia has previously held the ASEAN chairmanship in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
Founded on August 8, 1967, ASEAN currently consists of 10 Southeast Asian countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
