KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is satisfied with the overall flood disaster management in Sarawak and Sabah.

Through a post on Facebook, he thanked corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Rakan NADMA and the local community for providing assistance and donations to ease the burden of the affected residents.

"I hope that the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) will continue to organise the movement of post-flood and repair work with the various government agencies involved to expedite the recovery, especially the infrastructure in the affected areas.

"This is to ensure that the damage caused by the flood does not threaten safety and cause disruption to the residents for a long period of time," according to his Facebook message.

He also said that the situation in many districts in Sarawak showed a decrease in flood-affected residents, except in Beluru district where there was an increase in flood-affected residents.

"As of the report issued at 12.00 noon today, there are only 6,269 victims involving 1,970 families still sheltering in 28 temporary relief centers (PPS), compared to 9,296 victims involving 2,742 families last week.

"While in Sabah, there are four districts still affected by the floods as of this afternoon, involving 963 victims from 298 families, who are taking shelter in six PPS," according to the post.

In the meantime, he also reminded all parties to be careful and stay alert with the current situation since heavy rainfall is likely to occur during the Northeast Monsoon, which is expected to end only in March.
