Aerotrain installation delay issue has nothing to do with Transport Ministry

SEPANG, February 5– Transport Minister Anthony Loke has reiterated that the delay in the resumption of Aerotrain services at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is not the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport.

Instead, the delay in the installation of the Aerotrain falls under the jurisdiction of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB).

Loke also expressed his dissatisfaction with the ongoing issue and openly criticized MAHB for the delay.

“The Aerotrain is indeed delayed, but it is not a project under the Ministry of Transport. The project is managed by MAHB. I am also unhappy with the situation and am openly criticizing MAHB,” he stated at a press conference following the Paduan Kasih Madani program today.

He further mentioned that his ministry had been briefed on the Aerotrain installation project and was actively monitoring the situation through a dedicated working committee.

“All funds and contracts related to the project are managed by MAHB. Therefore, the responsibility lies with the MAHB Board of Directors,” he added.

In related news, last Saturday, the media reported that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has not ruled out summoning the Transport Minister for proceedings regarding the delay in the Aerotrain installation.

Initially, the Aerotrain replacement project at KLIA was slated for completion by March 31, 2025. However, MAHB later announced that it was expecting an earlier completion date of January 31, 2025.

In January, MAHB revealed that the Aerotrain service is now targeted to be fully operational by the second quarter of 2025, after being suspended for almost two years. As of now, no definitive date has been set for the resumption of services.
