Act 4: RM2.9 billion has been paid to contributors as of June 2024 - KESUMA

GUA MUSANG, August 13 -Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) has implemented a total of RM2.9 billion benefit payments to eligible contributors nationwide under the Workers' Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) from January to June this year.

Deputy Minister Of Human Resources Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad said that the contributions involving 708,089 benefit recipients, covering various categories such as Temporary Disability Benefit, Permanent Disability Benefit, Lump Sum and Periodic Disability Benefit, Dependents’ Benefit, Invalidity Pension, Retirement Benefit, and Funeral Management Benefit.

“Dependent expenses as of June 2024 reached RM2.9 billion. Meaning, imagine this RM2.9 billion is the amount the government has helped. It is a very large amount and the active workforce until June 2024 is 9.1 million.”

“It means a lot of people are involved with SOCSO,” said Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad to a reporter after presenting a SOCSO contribution to a lorry driver, Raja Azlan Raja Ibrahim who suffered a half body stroke in Kampung Baru Setar, here, today.

He added, based on the campaign series conducted so far, other than eligible employees who registered under Act 4, more farmers, planters and fishermen from the self-employed category are also involved in SOCSO schemes are protected under the Self-Employment Social Security Act 789.

Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad explained the government encourages the public to contribute to SOCSO because if a disaster strikes, the contributions will be given to them or their heirs.

Elaborating further, he said that in the same period, 518,000 active employers had registered with SOCSO under Act 4 involving 7.2 million employees.

As of August 2,678,000 people had registered under the Self-employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS). In an update for the upcoming Nenggiri by-election (N.43).

Deputy Minister Of Human Resources and the UMNO Supreme Working Council, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad stated his support to the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani.

According to him, the support given by the people of Nenggiri to Mohd Azmawi Fikri, better known as Awie, is also seen as a bridge between the Nenggiri State Assembly and the Federal Government.

"I am confident that if he is destined to win, he will be a bridge to the central government that can help the Nenggiri State Assembly and Gua Musang."

A total of 20,259 registered voters are eligible to carry out their responsibilities in the Nenggiri State by-election (N.43) involving 20 Polling Districts (PDM) on August 17.
