MANTIN, January 5- A man died when a motorcycle he was riding with his friend hit a vehicle in the emergency lane at Kilometer 29.1 of the Kajang-Seremban Highway southbound, last night.

Nilai District Police Chief Superintendent Malik Hasim, in a statement, said the two victims, who worked at a workshop in Kajang, were on their way to Senawang to have dinner in the incident which occured at about 9.40pm.

The accident involved two Yamaha motorcycles ridden by two men in their 20s to 30s and a four-wheel-drive vehicle carrying an empty fiber tank, driven by a man in his 50s, with his wife also in her 50s and their child in his 30s as the passengers.

Initial investigation found that the driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle had stopped in the emergency lane because it was believed that the vehicle had a problem with the engine.

At the same time, a motorcycle coming from the back could not avoid hitting the rear right corner of the vehicle before hitting the driver and his son who were outside the vehicle at the time.

Another motorcycle also tried to avoid the vehicle but lost control and fell.

As a result of the first collision, the rider suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene.

The victim's body was sent to Rembau Hospital for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the second rider suffered an injury to his left hand and received treatment at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar Seremban.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
