IPOH, January 31 - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited one of the sewage stations in Taman Cempaka for the Regional Sewage Treatment Plant and Sewerage Pipeline Network Project (Package 1) here.

Accompanying the Premier was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA).

The Regional Sewage Treatment Plant and Sewerage Pipeline Network Project in Ipoh is almost completed.

The project will benefit 1.5 million residents, in addition to reducing river pollution and odour.

"Packages 1 and 2 have already completed, while package 3 is currently almost 88 percent completed. There are a few challenges, namely related to land with cavities and so on. We have asked the Minerals Department to conduct a study and confirmation and currently the JPP (Sewerage Services Department) is assessing on what steps we can take to complete this project", said Datuk Seri Fadillah.

Package 1 of the project involves the construction of an 88-kilometre sewerage pipe network, nine pump network stations and the decommissioning and demolition of 149 public plants.

The entire project involves an allocation of RM2.02 billion through the 10th Malaysia Plan covering the Ipoh area and parts of Gunung Rapat and Mengelembu.

At the ceremony, the Prime Minister also witnessed the presentation of the Certificate of Completion of the Package One Sewerage Project by the Director-General of the Sewerage Services Department to the contractor.
