KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 18- Pasar Payang here highlights the variety of traditional food in conjunction with school holidays as one of the tourist attractions to the state.
The effort indirectly gives the younger generation the exposure on local food products, thus helping traditional 'kuih' entrepreneurs.
As for the traditional 'kuih' entrepreneur Saufi Mat Senan, with whom the reporter met, he welcomed the initiative of highlighting local food to visitors.
"As a young generation who is championing Terengganu's traditional kuih, 'Mek Comey', I am very proud and grateful for being given the opportunity to introduce this kuih to visitors.
"Perhaps not many people know, if there are local residents who don't know, what more about out-of-state visitors. It may also be that this 'kuih' has the same shape, but it has its own distinctive quality," he said.
Meanwhile, a visitor from Johor named Siti Nurfatin Haifaa' Farizah said, she had the opportunity to witness Terengganu's traditional 'kuih' making.
"This experience is very valuable for us, because we are able to know more about Terengganu's traditional 'kuih' and how it is made.
"To our knowledge, each state has its own unique traditional food, so this gives an opportunity to the younger generation, especially our children, to try this traditional food," she said.
While another local visitor named Ishak Mohamad described the effort as giving young people the chance to get to know Terengganu's traditional 'kuih'.
"I think this is a good opportunity for all visitors, because if we have the choice of whether to travel to this 'kuih' making area, we might not go.
"So when everything is combined under one roof, visitors can get a taste and see for themselves how the traditional 'kuih' is made," he said.
