PASIR PUTEH, March 18 - The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritim Malaysia) Kelantan is strengthening security of the country's waters to curb intrusion.
This is being carried out in conjunction with the festive season through Op Khas Pagar Laut 2025
Its director, Maritime Captain Erwan Shah Soahdi, said the special operation was launched by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on March 12 and has been reactivated to ensure that the waters are at an optimal level.
"Maritim Malaysia ensures continuous monitoring with the readiness of personnel and assets in monitoring ships and boats operating in the country's border waters," he said at a press conference in conjunction with the operation in Kelantan waters, yesterday.
He said Op Khas Pagar Laut 2024 had previously managed to record a total seizure worth RM9 million, in addition to seizing five boats including two local fishing boats and three foreign fishing boats involving 121 arrest cases for various offences.
According to him, throughout Ramadan and the festive season, Maritime Malaysia Kelantan mobilizes at least two assets, namely ships and boats, to patrol the waters every day.
Monitoring is carried out in the Exclusive Economic Zone up to 200 nautical miles from the Tok Bali estuary, while patrol boats monitor areas within a radius of 20 to 40 nautical miles, depending on weather conditions.
