KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 - There is no compromise against any online crime.
The matter was confirmed by the Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
He explained that the government cannot give an extension of time for the implementation of social media licensing in particular, as it is a part of the government’s effort to deal with paedophilia crimes and fraudulent activities which have become more prevalent in the virtual world.
"We receive complaints from the public about the existence of pedophilia groups on Facebook. Some have hundreds of people, some even reach tens of thousands of people because they have been operating for many years.
So, I don't understand why they (Meta) would want to protect these scammers and paedophile groups. We have instructed that social media platforms be licensed, so they should just proceed with licensing it," said Fahmi.
He said this at the 2024 MADANI Deepavali Open House in the capital today.
