Floods in Terengganu, receded completely

Relief center in Besut closes as floods in Terengganu fully recover, but Johor and Kelantan remain affected.

KUALA TERENGGANU, December 31 - The floods that hit Terengganu since last Sunday have fully recovered.

The temporary relief center (PPS) in the Besut district was closed at 10 am.

According to JKM's Disaster Info Portal, this is following the improved weather conditions since early yesterday morning.

This flood wave has affected three districts, namely Hulu Terengganu, Kemaman and Besut.

However, there is still a possibility of continuous rain happening because the country is still in the Northeast Monsoon (MTL) phase which is expected to last until March.

Meanwhile, the number of flood-affected residents in Johor who were placed in temporary relief centers (PPS) increased slightly this morning, while the disaster situation in Kelantan showed an improvement.

In Johor, Chairman of the State Disaster Management Committee, Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said the number of affected residents recorded a total of 55 people, taking shelter in two temporary relief centers (PPS) in the Kota Tinggi district, up to this afternoon.

The two PPS were activated since yesterday after floods hit several areas.

According to the report of the District Disaster Management Committee, 42 affected residents from 12 families were placed at PPS Sekolah Kebangsaan Gembut in the Sedili area, which was opened yesterday evening.

Another 13 residents are sheltering at PPS Dewan Kampung Baru Sungai Mas, Penawar.

"Meanwhile, five rivers are currently at an alert level, namely Sungai Muar in Kampung Awat, Segamat with a reading of 19.31 meters; Sungai Kahang in Kampung Contoh, Kluang at a level of 13.93 meters and Sungai Ulu Sedili Besar at Batu 52 Sedili, Kota Tinggi with a reading of 8.39 meters.

"Two more rivers are in Mersing district, namely Sungai Tenglu Kecil in Kampung Tenglu Kecil with a reading of 1.22 meters and Sungai Paya Dato' 1.35 meters. Three districts were reported cloudy this morning, namely Mersing, Batu Pahat and Kota Tinggi, while other districts were forecast to be sunny," he said in a statement today.

In KELANTAN, the number of flood victims involving the Tanah Merah district continued to decrease to 476 people from 135 families this morning, compared to 573 people from 178 families yesterday.

The Disaster Info Portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) shows that all victims are taking shelter in seven PPS.
