KANGAR, Jan 8- The cumulative number of dengue fever cases in Perlis from January to December 2024 has shown a decrease compared to the same period in 2023.

During this period, only 250 dengue cases were reported, compared to 821 cases with 1 death reported in 2023.

According to the State Health Exco, Marzita Mansor, the district with the highest number of dengue cases in 2024 is Sena with 40 cases, followed by Utan Aji with 35 cases, Kuala Perlis with 27 cases, and Chuping with 26 cases.

She stated that despite the significant decrease in cases, the State Health Department continues to intensify control and prevention activities across Perlis.

"From January 1 to January 4, 2025, 5 dengue cases were reported in the localities of Kampung Behor Mali, Kampung Padang Siding, Batu 2 ½ Jejawi, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Perlis, and Felda Chuping.

"Two areas have also been identified as active dengue outbreak localities, namely Block 3 and Block 5 Felda Chuping," she said.

She added that Perlis is currently in the final phase of the Northeast Monsoon, where the weather is hot and dry with chilly winds at night.

"Due to the current weather changes, the local community, especially those in active outbreak areas, should always take preventive and self-control measures to ensure their areas remain free from dengue," she further stated.
