LABUAN, February 20 - A grandfather and his two grandchildren died in a fire at Lazenda Villa Dua, Kerupang which occurred at midnight.
Labuan District Police Chief, Superintendent Hamizi Halim said the victims were a 65-year-old elderly man and his two grandchildren - siblings aged eight and 11 - who died in the incident.
Two other children, aged 13 and 12, also suffered injuries due to the fire.
Meanwhile, four other family members comprising the two young victims' uncle and aunt, aged 35 and 32 respectively, as well as an elderly woman and a one-year-old baby survived the incident.
At the time of the incident, they managed to escape to the roof of a nearby house, thanks to the help of the public.
The 400 square feet house was destroyed in the fire.
The Labuan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) however managed to put out the fire at around 2.22 am.
The case is classified as sudden death and further investigation into the incident is underway.
