SEMENYIH, Feb 17- 17 new schools will be opened nationwide this year to overcome overcrowding problems in existing schools, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

In addition, intervention measures such as the construction of additional cabins and the implementation of two school sessions were also introduced to optimize existing space and facilities.

"Our interventions are varied, including the construction of classroom cabins to overcome the issue of discomfort. The distribution of students to other schools also requires parental commitment, in addition to the implementation of two sessions for certain schools," she said.

"Overall, this approach can ease the problem while waiting for the construction of new, more conducive schools," she added.

Fadhlina said this to reporters after after visiting Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Pelangi Semenyih here to observe the opening of the 2025/2026 school session today.

She noted that in Selangor alone, 95 schools received additional cabins involving 31 classrooms with an allocation of RM69 million.
