SUNGAI PETANI, January 30- The Kedah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) took almost 17 hours to put out a fire at a frozen food factory at Jalan Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Kedah (PKNK) 3/7, LPK 3 Industrial Area, here, yesterday .
Sungai Petani Zone 2 Senior Operations Commander, Senior Fire Superintendent II Johari Bar Azwar, said they received an emergency call at 1.25 pm before fire enginees from the Aman Jaya and Sungai Petani Fire and Rescue Stations (BBP), along with voluntary fire squad, were deployed to the location for the fire extinguishing operation.
"Based on initial investigation, the fire had occurred at the refrigeration unit within the factory.
"Upon arrival at the location, thick smoke was detected inside the building and firefighters used fans to ensure good ventilation," he said in a statement on Thursday.
He added that the fire was successfully brought under control at 10.05 pm, while the extinguishing operation was completed at 6.18 am this morning.
The fire is estimated to have destroyed 40 percent of the factory building's entire structure.
