KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21- The resumption of negotiations on the Malaysia-EU Free Trade Agreement (MEUFTA) is expected to diversify the country's economy and exports.
Bursa Malaysia chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said the move has the potential to reduce Malaysia's dependence on any particular market, in line with the country's strategy to strengthen economic ties with trading partners around the world.
"As a trading nation, we need to establish good relations with all parties. I believe the more economic relationships we build with all parties, including Europe, it will benefit Malaysia," he said.
"This is part of the important foundation in efforts to diversify markets," he added.
He said this to reporters after his opening address at the 2025 Malaysia Economic and Strategic Outlook Forum, here.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the resumption of MEUFTA negotiations in conjunction with his working visit to Brussels, Belgium on 19-20 January.
